Registration is now open for the AVA US Open Qualifier / Alki Grand on Aug 2nd & 3rd (Saturday & Sunday)

The AVA US Open Qualifier / Alki Grand - Saturday & Sunday Aug 2nd & 3rd @ Alki Beach, Seattle Online registration is now open for August 2nd & 3rd!

Online registration is REQUIRED this year and closes at 3:00 pm Friday August 1st.
• Online registration is required to guarantee a team's rank or seed. Register online at: http://alkivolleyballassociation.com/2008-ava-events.html
• Same day registration will only be accepted if there is room in the tournament and a late fee of $20 per team will be charged.
• Players are required to have an annual 2008 AVA membership to play in any AVA event. If this is your first tournament for 2008, you will need to purchase a membership, which includes a custom AVA t-shirt (pick up t-shirt at registration).
• Check in Saturday morning 7:30-8:00 am. Player's meeting at 8:10 am. First serve at 8:30 am sharp. Point per minute penalty applies after 8:30 am.

Saturday (Aug 2nd) Divisions: Men’s and Women’s Open/AA.
• Open prize money will be a guaranteed $1000 for 1st place Men's and $1000 for 1st place Women's.

Sunday (Aug 3rd) Divisions: Men’s and Women’s A/Novice, Men's and Women's Masters, Coed doubles.

All finishes will count towards Seaside seeding this year.

Double AVA seasonal points will be awarded.

Our next tournament will be August 23rd & 24th here on Alki beach. As the official qualifying organization for the US Open, winning your specific AVA division on August 2nd or 3rd will get you a free entry into the US Open finals in Huntington beach, CA in September plus optain your seed. Additionally, finishes in the Alki Grand will count towards Seaside seeding this year.

Alki Beach Cleanup (AVA / Surfrider foundation) May 31st.

This weekends beach cleanup was a huge success! We were anticipating between 10-15 volunteers to show up, but we ended up having more than 30 volunteers!!

Thanks to all the volunteers that showed up Saturday morning to help clean Alki beach.  We cleared a large amount (over five large garbage bags) of broken glass, cigarette butts, plastic bottle caps and general trash from the entire beach. Strangest piece of trash we found must have been the large Teddy Bear!

We had a lot of walk-by volunteers who signed up to help (mostly local residents). We were surprised by all the people who just walked up to express their gratitude for what the AVA and their sponsors were doing for the beach community. It was a lot of fun, we're thinking of doing this on a more regular basis. 

Thanks to all of you, sponsors and volunteers for making this a success. We look forward to seeing you guys again at our end of season Beach cleanup on September 6th.

AVA tournaments played in June & July '08 will count towards seeding for Seaside, and towards seeding the US Open qualifier on August 2nd & 3rd at Alki beach.

Alki Beach Cleanup (AVA / Surfrider foundation)

The AVA (www.alkivolleyball.com) and the Surfrider Foundation (www.surfrider.org) will be cleaning Alki beach Saturday, May 31st from 8am-11am. Come down early morning to give a hand, bring your family, stay 10 minutes or however long you can.

Coffee and refreshments will be provided for all volunteers, along with a free AVA t-shirt. We're also giving away volleyballs as prizes.

We'll be focusing our efforts on picking up charcoal (on the courts), broken glass accross the beach and trash. Check-in at the tent, at the west end of the beach close to the bath house if you'd like to help..

Another first for Alki beach!
This year the volunteers at the AVA are proud to bring you the US Open Beach Volleyball Qualifier on August 2nd & 3rd at Alki beach in Seattle. All divisions will be played including open, AA, A & novice.

All division winners get an automatic birth into the 2008 US Open *finals* to be held in Huntington beach California in September '08 with a purse of $5,000. This year is the 2nd annual Us Open Finals of Beach Volleyball spearheaded by Karch Kiraly himself.

The US Open of Beach Volleyball was created with the specific purpose of providing an opportunity for adult players to pursue a crowning achievement on a national stage. The sport continues to grow as demonstrated by the level of active participation found at the regional level. We see players actively participating on all four coasts and at unique and special centers throughout the interior of the United States. Karch Kiraly is spearheading the development of the US Open. He is working with USA Volleyball and the Elevation Group, a sports and entertainment marketing firm managed by former IMG and ClearChannel/Live Nation executives.
